Ken, I have a problem logging in my glog at school. Do you know the reasons? I can't even link from my blog to my glog. When I link it from my blog, it goes to my profile, but I won't see my glog page at the bottom. When I log in at school, I always got the message that is invalid.

My glog is ready for viewing. It took me sometime to get it started. You can click on the link at the upper right corner of my blog to get to it.

I could get the link from my blog to my glog, but not from my glog back to my blog. It did not allow me to link or did not recognized my link.

When I first experienced the glog, I liked it. But after I kept waiting for it to response to me, I just did not like it any more. I did not know if anyone experience the same problem that I had or not. I also recognized that after MILI got the new page under glog, it has been slow down the process.

After having difficulty creating my students account, I found out that I did not register for glogster.com/edu, but glogster.com. I tried to re-edit my page, but it did not work. Then I tried to re-register, but it would allow me to use my name "HIAmathman" and email address. Then I deleted my name out of glog, and re-registered. It worked, but I still could not find my created page after I published and saved.

I tried to create a new feature to my blog, but I found out that My Space is not allowed in schools. I saw that my children had some special features from My Space; however, those special features also led you to some unwanted features. Well, it is good that our schools block those unwanted sites. Blogging
When I first started working on my blog, I was not convinced that blogging would be good tool for me. I thought that email would be a better communication tool, not a blog. But as I continued to work on my blog, I started seeing the value and creativity of the blog. In a blog, I could create more interesting things and link it to many sites. At the same time, people could visit my blog and write comments to me. I could see that it would a good tool for me to post messages to my students and for my students to share their learning.

Next year when I will teach Hmong language classes, blogging will be a great tool for my students to practice their writing and to share their learning. They will also be able to connect themselves to other schools as well as to their native country. They may also create lessons for younger students or for their parents at home.

Since I am a math teacher, I do not usually think about research papers. But my students sometime do need to create a project or do a short research paper. In such cases, I need to know the process of doing a research paper to help them.

Last year I had my students do a unit about Hmong embroidery, but I did not have the knowledge that I have today with Web 2.0. So I had them do in the traditional way of research. I believe that knowing something about web 2.0 would help them because when I did the attachments from Delicious, I compiled some available sites for my students.

Being with MILI, it opens my eyes to a new view of information literacy. I, as a math teacher, can also use the technology to support my students. Since many people acquire, create, and share knowledge and information through the web, I need to know how to protect my students and to be aware of what are available to them.

Yes,You Tube Is Blocked

Karen is right that it is blocked by the schools. I tried at our school and it did not work. So it is safe to have it on my blog. You Tube does contain inappropriate materials including Hmong materials. I checked a few songs and cartoons that contain bad languages. If it is not blocked by the schools, I will just remove it.

I got a link from HIA to a Youtube page that displays Hmong songs. You may want to check it out. A black guy sings a Hmong song and I can hear a voice from the audience: a woman praises that he is better than a Hmong singer. The first song on the right is about a girl asking a boy to teach her the green Hmong dialect. Do you think that I could have this link on my blog? Would it open the doors to many inappropriate pages?

I remembered that I created some tags for my blog through Delicious, but I could not find them. Now they appear in my blog. I often used the school computer and failed to observe that my tags still appeared in computer. So they were not lost after all. I was not the creator nor the designer of my blog. That was the reason that I did not know what were going on. I also realized that only Firefox carries my tags and not Safari. Encountering a problem also lead me to a new discovery. That was not bad.

I currently serve our country as an Army National Guard soldier. Almost anyone can become an American soldier. These are a few things that you would have to be or have FOR SURE to be in the military:
1. US citizen
2. High school diploma or GED
3. Pass the ASVAB test, a skills test given by the military.
4. Medical. People who are healthy and have no medical problems usually pass this with no problem. But if you've had surgery or other health problems in the past, it may hinder you from joining the military.

Reasons for joining the military:
There are many reasons people join the military. A person can make a career out of the military. An example would be a lawyer or a doctor. Some people enjoy both the military life style and their career as a doctor so they will become a military doctor. Other reasons people join is because their family members have served in the past. I've met many people who serve because their family members have served in Vietnam, World War I & II... etc. So to them it's a family tradition. I see a lot of that from American (white) families. But as for Hmong families it seems that the elders and parents tend to not want them to serve in the military due to what happened in Vietnam. But of course, there are some Hmong parents who encourage their children to join regardless of Vietnam or previous war experiences. Another BIG reason why people join the military, especially the National Guard and Reserves is the school benefits that they receive. This is a HUGE advantage to students who need help paying for their education. But the downfall for these people is the possibility of deployment. When I joined in 2001, I had to put school on hold for 6 months. I also never expected to be deployed but I was deployed in 2004. I had to put my education on hold for almost 2 years. I was bummed to put my education on hold but I graduated with no student loan debts. But it also made it hard to come back and start school back up. It's sad to say but it's true because other people join because of the money. The military offers a huge bonus for signing up.. I believe right now is $20,000. And for people who are already in the military and their contract is coming to an end and they're still in Iraq... they can sign up and get the $20,000 TAX FREE... another huge bonus for soldiers. Ask any more questions if you need.

Live Weather For Bangkok, Thailand

I tried to post a live weather for Laos, but I could not do it. Maybe that poor country has no connection with the live weather program. Then I tried for Bangkok, Thailand and it worked. Since the temperatures in those two countries are similar, I should be able to predict the temperature in Laos by knowing the temperature in Thailand.

I will ask my daughter if she could send us pictures of her work. I believe that our students may want to know about her work and how someone becomes a soldier. Can anyone become a soldier? What are the reasons for someone to become a soldier? Are they willing to serve our country as soldiers? Why or why not. I believe that since our parents served our country, we just continue their tradition of serving our country.

Media Queen, I like this title better because you are the queen in the media. It is nice to have you make comments on my blog. I don't blame us for not making comments because each of us is very busy. But at least I have you to keep my communication open running. I wish if we could have more training in the summer so that we will have more time working on our own pace with extra help.

What do you think about blogging and emailing? Which one is more suitable for the busy people like us? I can see that blogging have special features, but I am not good about it yet. So I often think that it consumes much of my time. Can we also combine our email with blog?

I wrote a comment to one blogger and accidentally published it twice. I wanted to delete one, but I could not do it. Does any one know how to do it? I also liked to post pictures and tried the icon above this page and it did not work. It would be more fun if I knew what were going on about my blog.

I created my blogs, but I often forgot to retrieve them because I did not have the time to blog. So when I was ready to blog, I could not open my blogging page any more. Although I put my time to attend the training, I did not have time to play with my computer. I believe that to be better on this mili, I have to spend more time on my computer. But the teaching of CMP consumes much of my time.

Our training was excellent for the advanced teachers, but it was not so good those beginners. We moved so fast and had no time for hand on experiences and got help as needed.

I started my blog early, but I had no time play with it. It was confusing at first, but it became easier when you played with it for a while. I knew how to revise my writing that I published early and created a new post. But I still could not edit pictures.
